چکیده

A bout 20–25% of patients develop recurrent thrombosis after successful thrombolysis for a first episode of prosthetic valve thrombosis (PVT). 2 Whereas fibrinolytic treatment (FT) is an acceptable modality of treatment for a first episode of PVT, there are few data on patients with recurrent PVT. We compared the outcome of FT in patients with recurrent PVT with those treated for a first episode.

Accelerated infusion of streptokinase for the treatment of left-sided prosthetic valve thrombosis: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND No large prospective studies have evaluated the efficacy of fibrinolytic therapy for left-sided prosthetic valve thrombosis, yet it remains the first line of treatment in developing countries. METHODS AND RESULTS We performed a randomized controlled trial comparing an accelerated infusion with the conventional infusion of streptokinase in 120 patients with a first episode of left-s...

Urgent surgery compared with fibrinolytic therapy for the treatment of left-sided prosthetic heart valve thrombosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies.

AIMS Left-sided prosthetic valve thrombosis (PVT) occurs frequently in developing countries and causes major morbidity and mortality. Fibrinolytic therapy (FT) is most commonly used as treatment, but increases the risk of stroke and bleeding. Urgent surgery may be more efficacious and cause fewer complications. Our aim was to compare the efficacy and safety of urgent surgery and FT for the trea...

Management of prosthetic valve thrombosis

Valvular re-replacement is the traditional therapy for prosthetic valve thrombosis[1–7]. Systemic fibrinolysis, leaving the valve substitute in place, and thrombectomy have been suggested as alternative therapeutic options. In order to weigh the risks against the benefits of surgical versus thrombolytic treatment, we performed a metaanalysis of data from 23 major studies reported since 1980 in ...

A serial fluoroscopy-guided thrombolytic therapy of a mechanical tricuspid prosthetic valve thrombosis with low-dose and ultra-slow infusion of tissue-type plasminogen activator.

Prosthetic valve thrombosis is a life-threatening complication that is seen most commonly in patients with left-sided prosthetic valves. However, mechanical tricuspid valves carry the highest risk of thrombosis of any cardiac valve. Thrombolysis has been performed successfully in right-sided prosthetic valve thrombosis and has been recommended as the first-line treatment in these patients. Alth...

Use of tenecteplase for left-sided prosthetic valve thrombosis.

INTRODUCTION Prosthetic valve thrombosis (PVT) following cardiac valve replacement in rheumatic heart disease patients is a common cause for referral to tertiary care centre. Although surgery has been described as the traditional choice of therapy, thrombolytic therapy has reported high success rates in published literature. CASE REPORT This is a case report of ten patients with left-sided PV...
